As part of the green part of our portfolio, we have established a fund specializing in biomethane investments. It is the first fund of this type on the Polish market, the purpose of which will be to implement projects in the field of biomethane production - ecological gas with a wide range of applications.
At WP2 Investments, we have been looking at various trends on the market for years. The energy transition will be a key challenge in the coming years, so we want to actively participate in this trend to have an active positive impact on the economy and the environment.
The target capitalization of the fund is EUR 25 million.
As a VC fund, we see great opportunities in such projects not only in the area of energy transition, but also from an investment perspective. We have invited external private investors to cooperate in this project.
In the second stage of the project's development, a strategic partner will be invited to it.
The fund has the formula of an Alternative Investment Company. The general partner with a 20% share in the fund is WP2 Investments. The project leaders and managers on behalf of the fund are Grzegorz Liput and Paweł Florkiewicz.
- We aim to build and launch 20 biomethane plants by 2030. In this way, we are in line with the ecological and investor trend with our projects and we are trying to meet EU requirements, - says Paweł Florkiewicz, co-manager of the project.
The project has been developed within the structures of WP2 Investments for over 2 years. – Over the last several months, we have built a key part of the team, bringing market experts on board. It is made up of people from the field of commercial energy, waste and biogas markets. This team ensures the highest quality of substantive preparation of operational activities, and thus maximizes the probability of feasibility of the entire project.
By taking up the biomethane challenge on such a large scale, we are not only in line with the trend of European decarbonization, but also take care of the needs of local communities.
We are an active part of the entire European ecosystem, which cares about meeting the regulatory requirements of the European Union, which has set a target of 35 billion m3 of biomethane in 2030, at the same time Poland is to have the capacity to produce 2 billion m3. This is a clear indication of the expectations and direction in which, a.o., the renewable energy market is to develop, in which biomethane is to play a key role.
These activities are aimed at stopping or at least limiting climate change and diversifying the use of renewable energy sources, which is why as a fund we have taken up this huge investor challenge.
